Position Information Present Position Number 01113W Role Code Title PR & Marketing Specialist III Position Title Communications and Marketing Specialist Unit Mission Statement The mission of the William & Mary School of Education is to transform students, schools, and communities through professional preparation, collaborative partnerships, and the translation of research into action.
The School of Education’s External Relations team is responsible for enhancing the school’s brand identity, raising private funds, facilitating engagement opportunities, and partnering with key internal and external stakeholders to advance the School of Education’s mission.
Position Summary The Communications and Marketing Specialist is a key member of the External Relations team contributing to all strategic communications and promoting the school’s priorities through a variety of integrated marketing campaigns and materials.
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications & Marketing Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing content that effectively promotes and advances the school’s mission and goals to an audience of students, faculty, university administrators, alumni, and the broader community.
They achieve this via various communications and marketing channels, newsletters, email campaigns, social media ads, webpages, and other digital content.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, English, marketing, or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience contributing to a comprehensive communications program that includes publications, internal and external communications, event promotion, direct marketing campaigns, and social media.
Working knowledge of writing and graphic design in communications and marketing.
Proven experience with storytelling and other creative communications.
Demonstrated ability to create content for various marketing channels such as written correspondence, audio and visual messaging, and web presence.
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to write persuasive and engaging copy and perform various writing tasks with creativity, invention, imagination, originality, and talent.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to work with a diverse constituency, and collaborate with other team members.
Firm understanding of web technologies and applications, including social networking, social media tools, and current communication trends.
Knowledge of AP Style.
Demonstrates flexibility and outstanding organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple and competing projects concurrently while adhering to strict deadlines.
Ability to adapt to changes and/or upgrades in-office procedures and systems.
Proficiency in a variety of software applications including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook), InDesign, Canva, and Photoshop.
Preferred Qualifications Strong project management skills with the ability to identify short-and long-range goals.
Experience managing a website.
Experience in external relations in higher education or a nonprofit with a mission relevant to the School of Education.
Prior communications experience in higher education.
Experience with content management systems (e.
g.
, Cascade, Drupal).
Photography and/or videography skills.
Experience with marketing automation platforms such as MailChimp, Constant Contact or Marketing Cloud.
Advertised Pay Range Up to $55,000, commensurate with experience University Salary Range U08 Department 3M1000 Education Operations Location William & Mary Is the position remote work eligible?
