The Role Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.
Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development.
Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures.
Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
This position is part of the Newport News Shipbuilding Nuclear Reactor Servicing Engineering group, responsible for providing design and engineering support to service Navy nuclear reactors.

Engineering Design is responsible for Electrical, Structural, Mechanical and Fluid engineering design of variety of navy nuclear reactor servicing equipment and systems.
Candidates with experience in all these areas is highly desired.
Reactor Servicing Engineering is well suited for any engineering discipline to include General Engineering, Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Systems, Industrial, Nuclear, and others.

Must Have Bachelor of Science Degree and 5 years of related experience or Master’s Degree and 3 years of experience in a related field or PhD with no experience 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's Degree; 8 years of non-related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's Degree; 12 years of non-exempt, Manufacturing, Military, Shipbuilding or Trades experience can be substituted for Bachelor's Degree.
