Essential Job Responsibilities Researches, plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, resonance, hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.
Applies research to recommend various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
Support Shipyard wide building systems and machinery to include HVAC, steam, industrial process ventilation, low pressure steam, hydronic hot water, chillers, plumbing, pumps, compressors, process piping and production equipment Responsible for addressing emergent maintenance, safety, production, plant equipment issues and performing system trends to assess system health/identify opportunities for energy savings for building mechanical systems and machinery Ensure Virginia Building Code compliance across the Shipyard for existing facilities and new projects Manage vendor maintenance contracts to include Building Management System (BMS) and temporary ventilation for submarine construction Oversee Engineering Consultants and Building Automation Contractors to ensure that yard wide mechanical and building systems are maintained in accordance with Virginia Building Codes, NFPA, and NAVSEA contract requirements.
Support other members of the Mechanical Fire Team on an as needed basis Minimum Qualifications What You Must Have (Mandatory) E2 (2 years experience), E3 (5 years experience) or E-4 (9 years experience) required with Bachelors of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Candidate must have strong communication, organizational and computer skills Experience in performing facility energy calculations, performing psychrometric analysis, fan static loss calculations, pump-friction calculations, selection of HVAC equipment, performing Life Cycle Cost Analysis, and development of operational control strategies for such equipment.
Ability to work independently as well as being a part of cross-functional teams in accomplishment of complex tasks.
Ability to complete assigned tasks on schedule and within budget Ability to address technical, quality and business aspects of a project Candidate must be a U.

Citizen Candidate must have the ability to obtain a security clearance Preferred Requirements Bonus Points for Having (Beneficial) Experience in a large industrial environment Experience with Hazardous Exhaust Systems Experience with condition evaluations and developing cost estimates in support of the Shipyard’s Long Range Strategic Plan (Forward Capital/Expense Planning) Physical Requirements Office, industrial or shipboard environment.
Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift.
