The VDH is made up a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts.
As part of the Virginia Department of Health, Hampton and Peninsula Health Districts (HPHD) are two health districts serving the residents of the Cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and the Counties of James City and York.
This position serves as a supervisor in the environmental health program with formal administrative, programmatic and performance management responsibilities for multiple staff in support of work unit goals and objectives.
Certifications of the Environmental Health Specialist Senior are required if performing inspections or evaluations of that level.
The Environmental Health Technical Specialist certifications are preferred but required if performing the duties.
Without prior approval: All routine environmental health services provided in the course of fulfilling job duties in compliance with any Board of Health Regulations.
Investigate environmental complaints.
Perform all environmental inspections as assigned.
With Supervisory approval: approval of leave, monetary expenditures, interpretation of VDH and district/office polices.
Requests guidance and advice on personnel matters, problems of a highly technical nature, and all complex problems that have a potential for litigation.
VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap)vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year’s seasonal influenza vaccination.
