The Role The Reactor Plant Planning Yard (RPPY) provides mission-driven engineering and design technical services supporting the U.
S.
Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP).
As a professional on our team, the candidate will play an integral role in the design, testing, fielding, supporting and troubleshooting of reactor and steam plant components and systems for the Navy's NIMITZ-class aircraft carriers.
The candidate will work in an agile, team-oriented environment, which will provide the opportunity to engage in diverse tasks, such as collaborative research, design, analysis, and testing.
The candidate will apply sound engineering and design principles to plan, document, and present technical solutions to the management team, teammates and customers.
Typical responsibilities include; however, not limited to: Becoming the subject matter expert on the design, operation, and maintenance for assigned components and systems.
Applying engineering expertise to resolve fleet issues associated with assigned systems in a timely manner.
Limited travel may be required.
Developing technical recommendations and reports, often requiring integration across multiple engineering disciplines.
Developing procedures to be used by Navy personnel to safely operate components and systems.
Defining system-level requirements for design changes or modifications to assigned systems.
Developing procedures and performing laboratory testing of components and/or systems to verify technical requirements and ensure robustness of design.
Developing, evaluating, and testing new concepts.
This benchmark is intended to be used by companies that have generic classifications engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical.
Must Have Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.
D.
and 4 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have CVN68 Class Reactor Plant fluid systems and component design Proven expertise in developing optimal reactor plant fluid System design solutions to improve plant operability, reliability, Maintainability, and safety; and successfully implementing those design Modifications into CVN68 Class ship reactor plant fluid systems via ShipAlt Information Packages Rapidly resolving highly complex technical problems for reactor plant fluid systems and components via Liaison Action Requests (LARs) Knowledge of the reactor plant operations, NAVSUP provisioning requirements and qualification requirements for replacement components Knowledge of valves, pumps, heat exchangers, filters, etc Experience in engineering piping systems and components.
Testing in shipboard or laboratory environment a plus.
Familiar with technical manuals and military specifications.
Navy or shipyard experience a plus.
