Certified Medication Technician - Full-time

The Newport News Sheriff’s Office has an immediate opening for a full-time Certified Medication Technician.
The Sheriff’s office operates two facilities housing over 500 inmates.
JOB DESCRIPTION In this role, you will care for an underserved population in a correctional medical environment while working alongside law enforcement to solve problems for our patients and clients.

The Certified Medication Technician is responsible for all aspects of medication administration within the scope of his/her certification and under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse.
As a Medical Technician your primary responsibility is to Administer prescribed medications to patients and adhere to all safety principles and infection control techniques.
Document medication administration and provide reasoning for any medications not administered.
Adhere to all Facility policies, Pharmacy Board rules and regulations, and the six (6) rights of medication administration.
Participate in data collection, medication audits, and other performance improvement activities related to medication administration.
Ensure patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA Regulations while reordering and replacing medications and medication administration supplies.
REQUIREMENTS • Certified Medication Technician in the state of Virginia • Current CPR certification • Clear background check REQUIREMENTS Must be a citizen of the United States.
Requires an acceptable background check and acceptable credit check.
Requires a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
Employees in this job are required to refrain from all use of controlled substances and are subject to random controlled substances testing.
Currently licensed as a Medication Technician in the state of Virginia Current CPR certification The Newport News Sheriff's Office shall safely and securely provide appropriate supervision of all persons entrusted to the care of the Newport News City Jail and Annex; provide for safe and secure operations in the courts; guarantee expedient and accurate service of civil and criminal warrants, and enforce the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
