*9-1-1 Communications Dispatcher* The Surry County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a full-time dispatcher to work in the 911 Communications Center of the Sheriff’s Office.
The Surry County Sheriff’s Office acts as the primary Emergency Communications Center for Surry County, VA, answering all emergency & non-emergency phones calls and dispatching for all Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, and Animal Control operations.
This position is classified as essential personnel.
*Responsibilities include:* * Answer and process all 9-1-1 and non-emergency administrative phone lines.
* Operates radio consoles, prioritizing and dispatching calls for service.
* Operates multiples computer software systems including Computer Aided Dispatch & Records Management System to enter all calls for service, dispatch appropriate units and maintain/track status of all public safety responders.
* Operates VCIN/NCIC terminals.
* Researches computerized data to complete reports or retrieve requested information.
* Monitors alarms, security systems and radio traffic, responding as needed.
* Completes other duties as assigned.
*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:* * Must be able to read, hear, write and speak the English language.
* Must be able to perform multiple tasks concurrently.
* Ability to analyze situations and react swiftly and rationally in high stress situations.
* Possess strong communications skills and excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required.
* Possess a knowledge of the geography of the county and its businesses, borders, schools, and residence.
* Ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks requiring a high degree of attention to detail.
* Ability to work rotating shifts including days, evening, mid-nights, weekends, and holidays.
* Ability to work and/or be placed on standby for all major events to include weather related emergencies and special events.
* Ability to apply the overall mission of the department.
*Education, Experience, and Training:* * High school diploma/GED required.
* Must possess or be able to obtain Virginia’s driver’s license upon hire.
* Previous Emergency Communications experienced preferred.
* Must possess or be able to successfully complete within the first 12 months of employment: * DCJS Basic Dispatch Academy * Full Access VCIN Certification * FEMA NIMS 100, 200, 700 & 800 * Any other required certification upon hire.
* Must be able to successfully complete both classroom and on-the-job training.
*Salary Range:* * $36,363.
41 - $58,181.
