Unit Mission Statement
The Financial Aid Office administers a comprehensive $150M aid program that helps undergraduate and graduate/professional students fund the cost of their educations.
Assistance is provided in the form of grants, scholarships, student employment, and loans.
Office staff perform their functions in a way that is sensitive and responsive to students and their families, meets the needs of other university offices (such as Admission and the Bursar), and is compliant with university, state, federal, and private regulations governing the aid programs.
Position Summary The Financial Aid Assistant position provides a high level of customer service and is the first line of communication with both current and prospective students and their families.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assists with document review and processing.
Supports financial aid operations by providing excellent customer service at the front desk.
Resolves first-line issues in the financial aid process.
Advises students and families through the financial aid process.
Responds to emails and phone calls regarding policies and procedures.
Provides administrative support including processing financial aid applications and documents, sorting incoming mail, and assisting the financial aid office in other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior administrative experience working in a customer service setting.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a strong customer service orientation.
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external customers to resolve problems, respond to inquiries, and obtain and disseminate information.
The ability to understand the importance of confidentiality, use resourcefulness, diplomacy and project professionalism in all aspects of responsibilities.
The ability to understand and appropriately apply federal, state, and institutional financial aid policies.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
Strong public relations skills, and proven ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook – calendar management.
Preferred Qualifications Associate’s degree or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Previous experience in a higher education setting (especially in a financial aid office).
Prior experience with Banner software or other higher education database system.
Familiarity and or knowledge of quality management and/or document control.

Some nights, weekends, and holiday hours may be required, especially during the Admission recruitment time frame but no more than a few times per quarter.
(Weekend hours are for special events only, such as Admitted Student Day).
